New Hardware=New Style

Another way to give your existing furniture or cupboards a new look is to change the hardware.  Sometimes just new knobs on a dresser will do the trick or in the case of kitchen cabinets replace exposed hinges, drawer pulls and knobs for a uniform look.  There are so many places that sell interesting hardware these days that it's easy to find something for any budget. Target, Anthropologie, Restoration Hardware are a few retailers who have a good selection and even sell online.

If a vintage look is what you prefer, and you like being green by recycling, there are endless resources for that too through architectural antique dealers.  Just do a Google search for your area and most likely you'll find one nearby.  If not, mail order may be the answer.  One of my newest favorite places is Olde Good Things.  Not only do they have they have locations in NYC, LA and Pennsylvania, they also have an eBay store and sell online through their website too.  And if there is something specific you are looking for that they don't have they'll help you find it!  The latest antique salvage dealer to peak my interest is Architectural Salvage of San Diego , yet another preservation-oriented company that identifies with my life long interest in reusing beautiful things rather than sending them off to the dump!
NOTE: One trick to remember though....take a sample of your old hardware with you.  Matching the size on antique furniture can be tricky, especially the spacing on drawer pulls.  Happy hardware hunting!
